High schools students earn credit for learning productive, communicative Chinese language and study culture while preparing for an educational trip to China.
If you’ve ever wanted to travel to China and learn about the culture, this class is for you. You will spend the first semester learning how to communicate using your Chinese language skills. Along with learning how to talk to others and navigate around the country, you will study topics relating to Chinese culture and history, and do small research projects and presentations about cultural or historical topics that catch your interest. In the second semester, you will broaden your study of Chinese language and culture and prepare for a group trip to China, where you will be able to see some of the cultural highlights, practice your language skills in real-life situations, and meet some students there. This class will be comprised of a small group of students who meet with a native Chinese-speaking teacher live on Zoom, and will meet daily throughout the semester.
SPIRAL offers up to four years of this academic course so students can pursue advanced study of Chinese language.
