As of January 2017, anyone wishing to apply for a work visa (Z-visa) for China must provide authenticated copies of certain documents in order for those documents to be recognized by the Chinese government.

The documents necessary are the following:

  • A copy of the highest degree earned by the candidate, authenticated by the Chinese Consulate in the country where it was received.
  • A copy of a certificate of non-criminal record provided by the local government of the candidate’s current residence, authenticated by the Chinese Consulate in the country where the candidate resides.

SPIRAL International encourages candidates who studied in America or who live in the US now to work with VisaRite, a professional passport and visa service company authorized by the US Department of State and the Chinese Consulate. They provide assistance in preparing paperwork for smooth and efficient processing. The application steps are summarized here, but be sure to check their website for up-to-date information, as well as whatever other forms are needed. Also, please keep in mind that obtaining the documents to be submitted to VisaRite for authentication will take time, probably 5 weeks at a minimum, and very likely more.
