HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR! Xīn Nián Hǎo 新年好

February 1st is the beginning of the Year of the Tiger. The Chinese New Year is also called Lunar New Year or Spring Festival, and it celebrates the end of winter and the beginning of spring.

What year were you born? Are you a tiger? A pig? An ox? The Chinese Zodiac moves in cycles of twelve years, and each animal has special personality traits that it brings to those born in that year.

In the year of the Tiger, SPIRAL is excited about our new and ongoing Chinese language and culture projects! If you would like to learn more about Chinese culture (including the zodiac) or learn some conversational Chinese, check out our online language and culture programs! These programs are designed for a hybrid or remote environment – perfect for schools, clubs, or homeschool settings.

In the meantime, I’ll leave you with a few Chinese New Year Greetings. Special thanks to Joseph, one of our star language students, for the tiger artwork!

恭喜发财! gōng xǐ fā cái!

Wishing you prosperity! (traditional New Year Greeting)

心想事成! xīn xiǎng shì chéng!

May all your wishes come true!
