Help us welcome international teachers to Vermont communities!

SPIRAL is excited to announce that we will be hosting two visiting international teachers during the 2022-2023 school year through the Teachers of Critical Languages Program!

The Teachers of Critical Languages Program (TCLP) makes it easy for U.S. schools to start or grow an Arabic or Mandarin Chinese language program by placing teachers from People’s Republic of China (PRC), Egypt, Morocco, and Taiwan to teach Arabic or Chinese as a foreign language for an academic year. By sharing their languages and cultures, the teachers bring global competencies to their host schools and communities.

Starting in August, Vermont will be host to two TCLP teachers for the very first time! Twinfield Union School in Plainfield will be hosting an Arabic teacher from Morocco, and Bellows Free Academy in Fairfax will be hosting a Mandarin Chinese teacher from Taiwan. We are looking forward to welcoming these teachers into our communities.

Besides building new language programs in their respective schools, these teachers will also be doing a lot of community outreach in the form of lectures, evening classes, cultural events, etc. Keep an eye out for these opportunities!

And this is where you come in! We need the community’s support to make these teachers feel welcome during their stay in Vermont. We are looking for host families/local living spaces (paid!), a local coordinator in each community, and community members who are willing to include these teachers in their lives and help organize events.

If you are interested in these opportunities, or just want to know more, please reach out! Email Sydney at [email protected].
