Spiral International joins Beavercreek High School’s “Culture in the Creek”

On April 16, 2025, Beavercreek High School (BHS) hosted an International Fair. Organized by the school’s International Student Club, this year was the second time to hold this event. The fair reflects the school’s mission to promote cultural awareness and local community through multicultural experiences. The BHS commons area turned into an exhibition, the outside a food truck area, and the high school auditorium, a stage that showcased dances and performances from the United States and around the world. Altogether, there were 13 booths, four food trucks, and five live performances.

The booths represented several countries, such as China, India, Scotland, Kuwait, South America, Japan and more. Visitors picked up a small passport/booklet at the entrance and began their adventure, visiting each booth to learn about countries and local organizations. Visitors received a star sticker to stick in the passport to cross off each booth they visited. People engaged in many activities, such as henna, getting their names written in Japanese with their favorite anime character drawings, practicing Chinese characters with calligraphy brushes and ink, and other activities. Students, families and children all enjoyed the booths, interacting with the representatives while learning about different countries.

However, not every booth represented a country! There were booths dedicated to specific activities such as henna, and organizations such as Dayton Association of Chinese Americans (DACA), and Spiral International. Some visitors were introduced to Spiral International while trying to get a sticker for their passport, while others were curious about the organization and its services.

The information board displayed a timeline beginning from when Spiral was founded with only 30 students, and how it expanded its services over the years. President Emily Guo and representatives Lighty Liang, Wei Wang, and Adrienne Phillips warmly welcomed each guest and got to know about their interests towards traveling and learning about Asia. They learned about the activities held locally, summer camps, and student exchange services to China, Malaysia, Taiwan and Singapore. The representatives informed the visitors of an upcoming 7-day trip to China to visit Cangzhou and Beijing this summer. Those interested scanned a QR code to on the display to join. Each new member was given free gifts of Asian snacks such as coconut candy, hawthorn berry chews, and spicy rice crisps, as well as bookmarks that featured famous Chinese works of art. Spiral International gained many new followers and requests to learn more. Spiral International plans to continue reaching out to more students and families to share knowledge of Asian culture, building bridges across communities locally and abroad.
